US Involvement
A few good points were raised about America's involvement with the crisis in Uganda. I agree that most Americans would not be very supportive of getting involved in another war. With the current war in Iraq, many people have family members and friends that are fighting overseas and are in danger. They would not want their family members to be sent overseas to Africa to fight against the LRA as well. Most Americans prefer the troops to be safe at home instead of fighting wars. The United States army would not even have the man-power to fight another war even if America decided that it wanted to help. And like everyone has stated, America is just one country and although we could help make a dent in the problem, we would not be able to stop the problem on our own. So what then should Americans do? More organizations need to be developed like Invisible Children to raise awareness about the situation. The more people know about it, the more help Uganda can receive. These organizations can also go international so that people all over the world are aware of what is going on in Uganda and can have access to ways to directly aid Uganda. Imagine the funds that could be raised if large companies donated a portion of their proceeds to these organizations. If Wal-Mart or McDonalds or any large scale company of that nature donated to these organizations, a lot more awareness could be raised and more people would be willing to donate their time or money to helping the situation in Uganda.
